Visit to Belper

Following the achievement of winning the category of Coastal High Street of the Year 2014 in the inaugural High Street of the Year Awards, Colwyn Bay Townscape Heritage Initiative was invited down along with others to Belper, the town which won the Market category and was named the overall winner of the awards.

Colwyn Bay THI gave a presentation alongside other officers showcasing the innovative work and partnerships taking place in the town, heard about the schemes other towns had in place and was able to share good practise and tips with other award recipients.

We were given a tour of the town to finish our visit, and learnt how a local cinema had been revived, how specialist food shops and local bookshops and galleries contributed to a lively high street, and we also admired the lovely traditional shopfronts which had benefitted from Belper’s own Townscape Heritage Initiative.
