Traditional Building Skills for Local Restorers

One of the challenges of restoring heritage buildings is ensuring the integrity of the building processes themselves. That’s why Colwyn Bay Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) teamed up with Holyhead Townscape Heritage Initiative as well as the Natural Building Centre in Llanrwst to deliver courses teaching traditional craft skills.

The workshops were a great success with 34 people from the local area learning about sash window repair, stone walling, roofing, lime pointing and working with lead.

Colwyn Bay THI Project Manager, Judi Greenwood was delighted with the results of the project. She said:

“It’s crucial that these heritage building skills are not lost. It was refreshing that along with the contractors, we also had architects and surveyors on the courses.

“Due to having so many historic buildings in Colwyn Bay keeping these skills alive is key to retaining our building heritage.”
